Job summary

Terrestris is seeking an Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) to support the Veteran community in Dayton, OH. This 1-year contract role offers $24.00 per hour and hours 8:00 am to 4:30 pm at 4100 W Third Street.

You will answer phones, greet patients, schedule and adjust appointments, verify demographics and insurance, and coordinate transfers. U.S. work authorization plus CMAA/CCMA or 2+ years of experience, and BLS/ACLS are required; VA experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Certification from an accredited institution related to medical administration (CMAA or CCMA) OR 2+ years of experience.
  • BLS and ACLS.
  • Previous VA experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Answer phones and greet patients.
  • Schedule, cancel, and reschedule appointments.
  • Verify demographics and insurance at check-in.
  • Coordinate transfers to VA facilities or other hospitals.
  • Handle electronic orders and documentation in EMR systems.

Requirements:
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. permanently, without sponsorship.
  • Certification from an accredited institution related to medical administration (Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)) OR 2+years of experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Previous experience with the VA is a plus.

What does a typical day look like for the Advanced Medical Support Assistant?
  • Schedule: 8 am to 4:30 pm.
  • Answer phones, greet patients, relay messages to appropriate staff inside or outside of the unit, schedule appointments, including interpreting and verifying provider orders in accordance with VHA national scheduling guidelines.
  • Schedule, cancel, and reschedule patient appointments and/or consults.
  • Enter no‑show information and monitor appointment requests from multiple electronic sources.
  • Participate in huddles with other MSAs and/or clinic staff to determine the daily needs of the clinic.
  • Monitor both inpatient and outpatient appointments in areas of responsibility.
  • Verify and update demographics and insurance information when patients check in for appointments.
  • Coordinate administrative functions relating to emergency and non‑emergency transfers to other VA facilities or private hospitals and determine appointment type based on the patient’s eligibility status (i.e., TRICARE, sharing agreements, collaterals, research patient, VA employee, etc.).
  • Serve as an initial point of contact for the units, clinics, patients, call centers, CitC, including, but not limited to, scheduling patient appointments, tracking, reviewing, and responding to electronic orders, consults, and other elements in the electronic medical record and medical systems.
  • Utilize practical knowledge of computerized data entry, information processing systems, and software related to patient care, the healthcare system’s organization and services, and basic rules and regulations governing visitors and patient treatment.
  • Apply knowledge of standard procedures, utilizing medical records, and medical terminology.
