Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) in Health Administration Service (HAS), works for various sections within HAS at the James A. Haley VA Hospital, Tampa FL, including the main hospital and outlying facilities. The AMSA supports the mission, vision, and values of the VA Healthcare System.
The AMSA supports high-volume sections, primarily responsible for monitoring encounters, consults, patient calls, and appointments. Responsibilities include:
Monday - Friday, 08:30 am to 5:00 pm, subject to change based on management needs.
Position details include the functional statement # 71240F, no relocation or recruitment incentives, and no physical relocation required.
Basic requirements include U.S. citizenship and English proficiency. Experience or education equivalent is necessary:
No certification required. Veterans and current employees may qualify under grandfathering provisions.
GS-6 level requires one year of experience equivalent to GS-5, involving specialized administrative judgment, managing clinic schedules, coordinating communication, and supporting interdisciplinary care teams. Demonstrated KSAs include collaboration, organization, communication, and technical knowledge of healthcare processes.
Mostly sedentary work with some walking, standing, and light carrying. Ergonomic protections are provided.
No education requirement. Service credit and leave accrual considerations apply. The position may be filled through additional vacancies and is in the Excepted Service.
