We are seeking experienced Mechanical Assemblers to support the U.S. Navy in Norfolk, VA, working on C5ISR system installations aboard U.S. Naval Ships.
Responsibilities
- Follow blueprints, guidelines, and/or diagrams to fabricate and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies.
- Keep equipment operational by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions and reporting malfunctions.
- Perform work with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.
- Rely on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Work onboard U.S. Naval Ships and military installations in conditions that may be uncomfortable due to drafts, noise, and temperature variation.
- Operate equipment where careless use could result in cuts, bruises, muscle strains, serious injury, or death.
Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
- Ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening.
- Ability to obtain an OSHA certification.
- Knowledge of respirator qualification and proper PPE usage throughout the work shift.
- Forklift certification.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience using power tools, assembling both large‑scale and intricate mechanical assemblies.
- Firewatch and Cable Installer certification.
- A minimum 5 years of shipboard experience in a related field.
- A combination of experience in the following areas:
- Read drawings (Beginner)
- Drill holes, cut metal, shoot studs & use torque wrench (without supervision)
- Assist with HAZMAT control & safety
- Ability to bolt/unbolt cableways, deck plates & equipment
- Operate light machinery/equipment
- Position, join, align, wrap & seal pipe & conduit sections
- Carry equipment & clean spaces
- Remove lagging & paint
- Follow directions of senior employees
- Experience with reading drawings (Beginner level)
- Demonstrated ability to work with blueprints, assembly drawings and sketches in completing a wide variety of assembly and sub‑assembly tasks.
- Experience in the fabrication and precision assembly of various mechanical assemblies.
- Ability to work second or third shift as needed and willing to work more than 40‑hour weeks.
- Ability to work high‑heat spaces, climb shipyard dry‑dock stairs/ladders, work in a kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while in a standing, crouching, or walking position.
- Attention to safety (critical).
- Willingness to travel up to 10% to various work sites.
- Ability to work in Newport News, VA.

- Active DoD Secret clearance.
