Job summary

Marvin in Fargo, ND is seeking a hands‑on manufacturing engineer to help rethink the future of our production systems. You will identify, evaluate, and advance technologies that improve safety, quality, and throughput while guiding pilots from concept through deployment.

You'll collaborate across operations, engineering, maintenance, IT, and suppliers to ensure scalable solutions. The role requires a practical, data‑driven mindset, strong communication, and a passion for continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field; equivalent experience accepted.
  • Experience in manufacturing engineering, automation, controls, or related technical discipline.
  • Experience with production systems, machine integration, PLCs, robotics, or similar technologies.
  • Proven ability to prototype, test, validate, and refine concepts in a hands‑on manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading pilot programs or process improvement efforts in manufacturing.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills with data‑driven decision making.
  • Ability to work in ambiguous environments and translate ideas into scalable solutions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration across cross‑functional teams.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and applying safe practices throughout innovation and implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and evaluate emerging manufacturing technologies, including automation, robotics, vision systems, and AI tools.
  • Lead pilot projects and proof‑of‑concept efforts in production environments to validate feasibility and value.
  • Develop validation plans, test methods, and success criteria to measure impact on safety, quality, throughput, cost, and ergonomics.
  • Partner with operations, engineering, maintenance, IT, and suppliers to ensure scalable, deployable solutions.
  • Translate concepts into ROI‑informed business cases and deployment‑ready opportunities.
  • Create technical documentation and validation reports to support prioritization and decision‑making.
  • Contribute to Marvin’s advanced manufacturing roadmap by identifying scalable capability opportunities.

Job Overview

We are seeking an innovative, hands‑on engineer to help Marvin think differently about the future of manufacturing. In this role, you will identify, evaluate, and advance emerging technologies that improve safety, quality, and productivity across our operations. From early‑stage exploration through pilot execution, you will validate ideas, assess impact, and translate new concepts into practical manufacturing solutions that support our long‑term advanced manufacturing strategy.

Highlights of your role
  • Identify and evaluate emerging manufacturing technologies, including automation, robotics, vision systems, AI‑enabled tools, and advanced process concepts.
  • Lead pilot projects and proof‑of‑concept efforts in production environments to validate feasibility, value, and operational fit.
  • Develop structured validation plans, test methods, and success criteria to measure impact across safety, quality, throughput, cost, and ergonomics.
  • Partner with operations, engineering, maintenance, IT, and external suppliers to ensure solutions are scalable, supportable, and aligned to business needs.
  • Translate concepts into clear recommendations, ROI‑informed business cases, and deployment‑ready opportunities.
  • Create technical documentation, validation reports, and updates to support prioritization and decision‑making.
  • Contribute to Marvin’s advanced manufacturing roadmap by identifying opportunities that build scalable capability.
You're a good fit if you have (or if you can)
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and manufacturing experience.
  • Experience in manufacturing engineering, automation, controls, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Experience working with production systems, machine integration, PLCs, robotics, or similar manufacturing technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to prototype, test, validate, and refine new concepts in a hands‑on manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading pilot programs, proof‑of‑concept initiatives, or process improvement efforts within a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to leverage data to support decision‑making and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous or evolving environments and translate ideas into practical, scalable solutions.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to partner across technical, operational, and cross‑functional teams.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and applying safe practices throughout innovation, testing, and implementation activities.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a passion for identifying opportunities to enhance manufacturing processes, technologies, and operational performance.
Also want to make sure you have
  • Knowledge of advanced manufacturing technologies, including machine vision, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), simulation tools, or digital twin applications.
  • Experience supporting multiple manufacturing facilities or implementing solutions across multiple locations.
  • Knowledge of Industry 4.0 principles and emerging manufacturing technologies.
  • Experience scaling successful pilots or proof‑of‑concept initiatives into broader operational deployment.
