Job summary

The City of Tumwater is offering an internal advancement opportunity for Maintenance Technician I employees who are ready to progress to Maintenance Technician II within the Utility Maintenance series. Maintenance Technician II performs skilled maintenance, repair, and operation across sanitary sewer, stormwater, water, and streets crews, with increased independence and responsibility.

Selected candidates will demonstrate readiness, apply established procedures, and contribute to team operations

Qualifications

• Experience with maintenance of utility systems and corresponding preventive maintenance tasks.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and procedures.
• Proven track record of working safely and following established practices.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled maintenance and repair across sanitation, stormwater, water, and street crews.
• Operate specialized equipment (e.g., vactor trucks, CCTV) to support inspections and preventive maintenance.
• Document work activities and support regulatory compliance.
• Respond to emergency calls and system failures as needed.
• Mentor and support Maintenance Technician I staff.
