Job description

**Job Description Summary**

The Advanced Lead Test Systems Design Engineer will design and develop automated test systems and test programs for design verification and high-volume production testing of electronic assemblies. This will include the management of requirements, design of electronic circuits, and development of test software to attain full test automation, as well as integration of hardware & software into complete systems. He/she will support four key activities:

1) Design and specify new production test equipment for complex electronic products.

2) Lead development of the test equipment through all phases of the project: Planning, Requirements, Architecture, Hardware/Software Design, Integration, Verification.

3) Influence overall test strategy, test data analytics, and test strategies for high-volume electronics manufacturing.

4) Support next generation product design and test equipment platform developments and deployments.

The Advanced Lead Test Systems Design Engineer is responsible for ensuring all aspects of the product can be thoroughly tested, leading development of the test equipment through all phases of the project and working with multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful completion of test systems through qualification and into production. They will drive design improvements, as necessary, utilizing data analysis, KPIs, and metrics, to achieve and maintain production capability and consistency.

Location: Grand Rapids, MI

This position, which offers a blend of onsite and hybrid work arrangements, is based in Grand Rapids, MI and necessitates a presence in the office for 2-3 days each week. An extensive corporate relocation package is also available for eligible candidates.

**Job Description**

**Roles and Responsibilities:**

+ Lead development of the test equipment through all phases of the project: Planning, Requirements, Architecture, Hardware/Software Design, Integration, Verification.

+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define test requirements and specifications.

+ Design, develop, and maintain end-of-line test systems to ensure product functionality and quality. Generate test software, design electrical test hardware, and lead corresponding design reviews.

+ Analyze test results to identify trends, anomalies, and potential issues. Communicate test results and findings effectively to stakeholders.

+ Work closely with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure seamless integration of testing into the production process.

+ Investigate and resolve issues related to test equipment hardware and software. Work with manufacturing and product engineering teams to implement corrective actions.

+ Work with manufacturing counterparts to identify opportunities to improve test processes, reduce cycle times, and enhance test coverage. Apply lean principles to optimize testing workflows and eliminate waste.

+ Create and maintain detailed documentation for test procedures, equipment, and results.

+ Train operators and technicians on the proper use of test equipment and procedures.

+ Provide technical support for test-related issues during production.

+ Support product and test equipment design changes for obsolescence management, product improvement, and cost-out activities.

**Basic Qualifications:**

+ Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field from an accredited university or college.

+ 6+ years of professional experience developing automated test systems for complex electronic products, electrical systems design, or similar.

+ Software design experience with text-based languages such as C/C++/C# and Python.

+ Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams.

+ Understanding of military and industry specifications, standards, and federal aviation regulations as they apply to the development of electronic equipment.

+ Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.

+ Strong oral and written communication skills.

+ Experience with data communication protocols such as RS-232, RS-422, and Ethernet TCP/IP.

**Eligibility Requirements:**

**Desired Characteristics:**

+ Experience with processor-based electronics hardware, especially with respect to test and diagnostics.

+ Proficiency in software development using National Instruments TestStand, C/C++/C#, LabWindows/CVI.

+ In-depth knowledge of automated test engineering disciplines and methodologies.

+ Analysis experience with Mechanical design, Integrated electronics, and circuit card assemblies.

+ Working knowledge of complex avionics systems and their components.

+ Experience with test system design and development for integrated electronics and circuit card assemblies.

+ Experience with high volume electronics manufacturing and end-of-line testing.

+ Experience with environmental testing to standards such as DO-160, MIL-STD-810.

+ Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and deliver results.

+ Familiarity with aerospace standards, materials, and manufacturing processes.

+ Demonstrated application of problem solving and root cause corrective action tools and process.

+ Self-starter who takes ownership of product line and is committed to continuous improvement initiatives.

+ Strong oral and written communication skills.

+ Attention to detail.

The base pay range for this position is $105,600.00 - $140,700.00 USD Annual. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary/ commission based on the plan. This posting is expected to close on 8/01/2025.
