Job summary

The City of Rock Hill in Rock Hill, SC is seeking a Water & Sewer Equipment Operator to operate heavy and light equipment for installing, maintaining, operating, and repairing water lines, meters, hydrants and related components. This role serves in a high-traffic environment and requires safety-minded collaboration with the crew.

Applicants must have a High School diploma or GED and at least two years of equipment experience; a valid Class A CDL and DOT Medical Card are required.

Qualifications

• Requires high school graduation or GED.
• Requires two years with heavy and light equipment or closely related experience.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and current DOT Medical Card.
• Equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy and light equipment for installing, maintaining, operating, and repairing water lines.
• Assist with installation of water mains, valves, taps, hydrants, meters; work is performed in high-traffic areas.
• Perform inspection, minor maintenance and repairs of water pumps; write work orders and assist in more complex maintenance and repairs.
• Speak with customers and handle customer service issues and complaints; provide excellent customer service.
• Oversee the crew when the supervisor is unavailable, delegating work to the crew.
• Ensure meters are working properly so customers are billed correctly, and water is working properly for all customers; collect data from water meters and input into computer.
• Change out and set new water meters; repair water lines and services; make taps on water mains; repair and maintain hydrants.
• Stock, clean and organize truck and materials.
• Perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Perform all other duties as may be assigned to meet organizational needs.
