Job summary

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks an Energy Utilities Specialist - Advanced to operate the cogeneration plant and support campus steam and electrical demands. This full-time role requires strict adherence to safety procedures and a 24/7 rotating 12-hour shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred candidates have DCS or CEMS training or boiler/industrial plant operating experience; familiarity with Maximo and PC software is a plus.

Qualifications

• Minimum education: high school diploma or equivalent and two years of related experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Preferred: DCS, CEMS training or boiler/industrial plant operating experience, working knowledge of personal computers and associated software, experience with a work management system (Maximo).

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor all equipment and systems to meet campus steam and electrical demand.
• Communicate with maintenance personnel to correct malfunctions and ensure continuous service.
• Maintain reports and data for EPA and other regulatory agencies; assist in training junior operators.
• Enforce safety and operating procedures; issue lockout/tagout clearances and conduct pre-job briefings.
