Provides basic pre-hospital emergency care to the sick and injured and transports emergency and non‑emergency patients safely and efficiently to appropriate medical facilities. The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician evaluates the patient and relays pertinent information to the appropriate medical facilities and may be required to implement appropriate medical interventions from PA DOH State Protocols and medical command physician orders. The AEMT works closely with the EMT, Paramedic, and other AEMTs in providing effective and efficient patient care in accordance with established protocols and by performing the following duties.
Assists with the supervision, training and direction of new AEMT’s, EMT’s, EMS students and other outside agency personnel as directed.
ALS equipment associated with AEMT skills as defined in the PA DOH EMS Scope of Practice for AEMT’s. And all BLS equipment including backboards, splints, oxygen equipment, radios, ambulance, and wheelchair vehicles.
The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician is fully responsible for all actions as a certified Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and is accountable for the quality of emergency and non‑emergency medical care delivered. In delivering pre‑hospital emergency care, the AEMT performs some techniques of an ALS provider as permitted by the PA DOH EMS Scope of Practice for AEMT’s, all techniques of basic life support, provides specified field treatment for medical emergencies, and transports patients to the appropriate medical facility. This includes ambulance, wheelchair and medical van.
Conducts patient assessments to assess the nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed, or need for additional assistance, and provides care to all patients, adhering to established protocols and procedures.
