Job summary

IU Health in Indianapolis seeks an experienced Expanded Function Dental Assistant to support the dentist and hygienist in a busy clinical setting. You will prepare treatment areas, obtain radiographs, and ensure instruments and supplies are ready.

You will also manage patient flow, educate patients on procedures and insurance, and assist with registration and administrative duties as needed. A strong ability to work with apprehensive patients and pediatric cases is essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• BLS-CPR certification required.
• Dental radiology license in Indiana required.
• Certification in Expanded Function Dental Assisting from an accredited program or on-the-job training with minimum of 5 years experience in Dental Assisting.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Certification in Caries Prevention and Coronal Polishing preferred.
• Ability to work with medically, physically, and cognitively compromised patients.

Responsibilities

• Performs advanced dental care services under the direction of a Dentist.
• Assists dentist/hygienist and places restorations, bands, brackets, and appliances.
• Obtains diagnostic dental x-rays using safe radiology practices as directed.
• Manages patient flow, education, and insurance explanations.
• Maintains aseptic/sterile processing of instruments and supplies.
• Performs administrative duties including scheduling and patient communication.
• Precepts and mentors other staff in clinical skills and behaviors.
