Job summary

Ochsner Health is seeking a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to perform advanced ultrasound procedures in collaboration with staff radiologists. The role includes mentoring junior staff and students, ensuring safety protocols, and providing preliminary diagnostic input to radiologists.

Required CAHEA-approved training in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and RDMS or registry eligibility within 1 year of hire. BLS certification is also required.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a CAHEA approved formal training program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
  • RDMS certification or registry eligible within 1 year of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Knowledge of abdominal anatomy for ultrasound procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies physician order and procedure to assure accuracy.
  • Uses radiology information systems to facilitate care.
  • Explains procedure to patient to ensure understanding.
  • Operates imaging equipment independently per protocol.
  • Reviews patient images for diagnostic quality.
  • Completes timely quality control procedures per regulatory standards.
  • Assists in departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance).
  • Adapts communication to the patient population.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
