Job summary

Pro-Type Industries in Sterling, VA is seeking a CNC CAM Programmer to own programming from print/model to production for 3-, 4-, and 5-axis mills and CNC lathes.

You will interpret drawings, GD&T, and 3D models to build Mastercam programs, optimize toolpaths, create setup sheets, tooling data, and step-by-step instructions while collaborating with Engineering, Quality, and Production to improve yield, cycle times, and part quality in an AS9100 environment.

Qualifications

• Interpret drawings, specs, GD&T, and 3D models for CAM programming.
• Experience programming 3-, 4-, and 5-axis milling; lathe programming preferred.
• Proficiency with Mastercam and SolidWorks for modeling and toolpaths.

Responsibilities

• Own programming from print/model to production for mills and lathes.
• Program, edit, and optimize in Mastercam for accuracy and repeatability.
• Engineer machining strategies: tool selection, speeds/feeds, fixturing, sequencing.
• Create setup sheets, tooling data, and work instructions.
• Assist with machine setups and first-piece prove-outs; support operators.
• Diagnose issues related to code, tooling, workholding, and machine performance.
• Improve programs to reduce cycle times and extend tool life.
• Maintain revision-controlled programs aligned with engineering.
• Operate within AS9100 requirements and customer specs.
