Job description

Build the processes that run while the world sleeps. At The Lee Company, we’re on a mission to scale precision manufacturing through smart programming, robust tooling strategies, and practical robotics. You’ll own the pathway from drawing to dependable, lights-out production across Swiss, lathe, and milling platforms.

Your impact

Start by interpreting complex prints and machine specifications. Architect an operation plan with tooling, sequences, and setup instructions that meet close tolerances and stringent inspection requirements. Convert that plan into efficient G/M-code. Prove it out on the floor. Then iterate—tighten finish, tame chip flow, and shave cycle time—until the process runs reliably overnight.

Key responsibilities
  • Program CNC lathes, Swiss lathes, and mills to current standards; engineer new processes for continuous, unattended (lights-out) operation and support robotic automation initiatives.
  • From part drawings, machine specs, and electronic control data, produce operation sequences, tooling arrangements, and machine setup documentation using established methods and standards data.
  • Define and code tool operations, speeds, feeds, and workpiece positions to align with planned sequences.
  • Prove out programs by operating machines when necessary; monitor setups and initial runs to validate methodology, tooling, and part quality.
  • Continuously improve—correct program errors, adapt to new tooling, enhance surface finish, and reduce cost.
  • Collaborate with Tool Design and Manufacturing to plan or refine tooling for new and existing jobs.
What you need to succeed
  • High school diploma, GED, or trade school education; associate degree in manufacturing technologies preferred.
  • Strong understanding of metalcutting and CNC machining principles.
  • Ability to diagnose tool failure, rough finishes, and chip buildup issues.
  • Hands-on skill with computerized machine controls, precision metrology, hand tools, and specialized trade tools.
  • Comfort using computers for data entry and document production.
  • Mechanical aptitude with solid mathematics.
  • Capable of blueprint reading, proofreading documentation, training team members, and completing production paperwork.
Technical strengths
  • GD&T
  • CNC programming (G-code/M-code)
  • Troubleshooting equipment and processes
  • Setting up machines for production runs
Equipment footprint
  • CNC Swiss Lathe: Star, Citizen, Tsugami, Eurotech, Tornos
  • 5+ Axis CNC Lathe: Mazak, Okuma, Eurotech, DMG Mori Seiki, Nakamura
