Job summary

The Alamo Colleges District seeks an Advanced Certified Interpreter to provide American Sign Language interpreting services for deaf and hard of hearing students and internal partners of the district.

This part-time, temporary position requires BEI Advanced Certificate or RID certification; travel to campuses as needed is expected. It reports to the Interpreter Services Manager and is not benefits-eligible.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or equivalent required.
• Minimum 2 years ASL interpretation experience.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• BEI Advanced Certificate or RID certification required; BEI certification must be completed within six months of hire.
• Valid driver's license and insurability required.

Responsibilities

• Provide ASL interpreting services for deaf and hard of hearing students and internal partners.
• Report to Interpreter Services Manager.

Location: The supervising department is located at Interpreter Services 2222 N. Alamo St. San Antonio, Texas, 78215 United States.

However, Interpreters will need to go to whichever campus / location is needed for deaf student access.

Outside working hours if other than M-F 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.: Varied based on deaf student schedules.

Job Summary and Description

Provides American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services for deaf and hard of hearing students and internal partners of the Alamo Colleges.

Reports to the Interpreter Services Manager.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience:

• Associate's degree or a combination of relevant experience, education and training that equates to the required degree.
• Two years of experience performing American Sign Language interpretation as a certified interpreter or an equivalent combination of experience and education in certified interpreting.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree.
• Four years of experience performing American Sign Language interpretation as a certified interpreter or an equivalent combination of experience and education in certified American Sign Language interpreting.

Licenses and Certifications

• Must possess and maintain Texas Health and Human Services (HHS), Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) Advanced Certificate, or comparable Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification.
• Comparable certification from other states, pending BEI Certification, is acceptable but BEI certification must be completed within six months of hire. Individuals pursuing BEI certification may apply and must complete BEI certification within six months of hire.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver license. Must be insurable through the organization's insurers.
