Job summary

Sutter County's Department of General Services seeks an Equipment Mechanic II to inspect, diagnose, and repair automotive equipment, including light trucks and police/fire vehicles. You will diagnose driveability and computer-control problems, perform maintenance, and use a range of tools and diagnostic equipment to keep vehicles in safe, working order.

Two years of journey level automotive experience with on-board computer training is expected, along with the ability to work with computerized

Qualifications

Two years of journey level automotive mechanic experience with formal training in on-board computer systems.
Ability to diagnose electrical and mechanical problems and determine necessary repairs.
Experience with smog inspections and certification.
Familiarity with using automated diagnostic tools and computer systems in vehicle maintenance.

Responsibilities

Inspect automotive equipment to determine corrective action and repair driveability and computer-control problems.
Repair engines, transmissions, brakes, and related components; perform overhauls.
Change oil, inspect fluids, and perform safety inspections on brakes and systems.
Operate computer scan tools; interpret trouble codes and diagnose electrical issues.
Order and pick up parts; maintain a clean, safe work area.
Fabricate parts and install radios or other equipment in specialized vehicles.
May perform acetylene and electric welding.
Make emergency and road calls as necessary.
