Overview:
ACARA Solutions, in partnership with our client in Middletown, RI, is seeking an experienced Advanced ASIC / FPGA Embedded Engineer for a contract-to-direct hire opportunity. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in embedded systems development, FPGA design, and digital hardware engineering, with a focus on developing mission-critical, military-grade electronics and underwater acoustic systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, implement, simulate, and verify FPGA-based firmware components.
Define timing constraints, pin assignments, and placement for FPGA designs; analyze synthesis and timing reports to resolve issues.
Develop and test embedded firmware for microcontroller-based systems using C/C++.
Design and simulate digital circuits for embedded applications.
Conduct hardware integration and system-level testing on target platforms.
Develop and maintain technical documentation including system specifications, design documents, test plans, and reports.
Build and support custom test systems, including software tools for validation.
Lead or participate in cross-functional engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
Research and evaluate emerging technologies for integration into future systems.
Present technical findings, test results, and project status updates to stakeholders.
Required Experience and Skills:
Minimum 5 years of experience in the full engineering development lifecycle (requirements, design, implementation, testing).
At least 5 years of experience in FPGA design using VHDL, including simulation, verification, and timing closure.
5+ years of experience developing embedded firmware in C or C++ for microcontrollers.
Strong background in digital circuit design and analysis.
Proven experience working with Linux and embedded operating systems.
Familiarity with memory technologies, voltage regulation, ADCs/DACs, and standard low-level communication protocols (e.g., SPI, I2C, UART).
Proficient with lab instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and soldering tools.
Capable of generating technical documentation and conducting design reviews.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in military or defense-related electronics development.
Familiarity with acoustic systems or underwater sensor technology.
Leadership experience in engineering projects or cross-functional teams.
