Job summary

First Step Inc. in Hot Springs, AR is seeking a Substitute to support classroom staff across assignments for individuals with developmental disabilities.

The Substitute follows lesson plans, uses instructional aids, and assists with daily activities to help consumers participate and learn. You must read and interpret safety rules, write routine reports, speak with groups, perform basic math, apply instructions, and assist with lifting and transferring students while maintaining safety and

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedures.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively with groups of consumers.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic in all units of measure.
• Ability to apply written or oral instructions and follow procedures.
• Ability to handle problems with several variables in standard situations.
• Ability to lift and transfer students.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and follows daily lesson plans and schedules.

• Helps maintain neatness/cleanliness of classroom/training areas.

Job Summary:

The Substitute works as needed in any classroom of the component. Reports to the coordinator/supervisor for the assigned department and performs any combination of the following instructional tasks in assigned classroom to assist teaching staff.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Reviews and follows daily lesson plans and schedules
• Uses available materials and instructional aides to present objectives to consumers
• Assists consumers with self-help skills including toileting, grooming, feeding, etc.
• Assists/supervises consumers in all aspects of daily schedule (field trips, wheelchairs, communications devices, etc.)
• Uses appropriate behavior modification techniques to manage inappropriate behavior
• Discusses training problems with supervisor
• Helps maintain neatness/cleanliness of classroom/training areas
• Other duties as assigned

Must have the ability to work in a constant state of alertness to ensure the health, welfare, and safety of developmentally disabled persons

Requirements
