The Municipality of Anchorage's Library department seeks an Adult Services leader for the Loussac Library to set the direction for programming, events, outreach, and services that meet community needs. This role oversees staff, budgets, and policy implementation while representing the library in the community.
You will hire, train, and evaluate staff, manage workflows, and work on system-wide planning to support forward-looking library operations and exceptional customer service.
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This is a non-represented position (no union affiliation) and is subject to the provisions of the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage.

This position leads Adult Services for the Anchorage Public Library (APL) by setting direction for adult programming, events, outreach, and services at Loussac Library that advance APL’s mission and meet community needs. Manages Adult Services staff by hiring, training, mentoring, and evaluating employees and establishing effective workflows and performance standards. Oversees division reporting and budgets. Ensures consistent application of policies and procedures; effectively communicates with respect, tact, and courtesy to resolve patron and personnel issues. The role drives division planning, policy development, and system-wide collaboration, solving complex service, staffing, and operational challenges with clear communication and sound judgment. Across all duties, it fosters a welcoming, high-performing environment for patrons and staff, maintains strong awareness of trends and best practices, represents the library in the community, and supports efficient, forward-looking library operations. Serves on the leadership team to develop and implement system-wide policies, training, and objectives. Performs other duties as assigned.
Master's degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited school and
two

) years of professional library experience,
one

) year of which is at the supervisory level with some experience in budget preparation.
Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
Satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400) at time of hire.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160) and (AS 12.62.400). Accordingly, it will be necessary for the selected applicant to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from date requested. The processing fee of $48.25 plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable) is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work.
If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted background check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
