Job summary

Ascension is seeking an Adult Psychiatry Physician to join the St. Elizabeth's Hospital team in Appleton, WI. This employed role offers a 7-on/7-off inpatient schedule (7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.) on a 14-bed unit with average census around 9 patients and typical 3–5 day stays.

You'll work within a nonprofit health system with robust resources, a strong referral base, and licensure in WI or MN. Board-certified/board-eligible candidates are welcome to apply.

Qualifications

• MD/DO credentialed from Minnesota Board or Wisconsin Medical Examining Board prior to hire date or job transfer date.
• Advanced Life Support (AHA or ARC) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including 24/7 nursing, social work, and therapists to provide patient care.
• Provide care on a 14-bed adult inpatient behavioral health unit with focus on acute crisis stabilization.
• Accept and manage inpatient referrals as admitting/attending/consulting physician as needed and support quality/cost initiatives.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated Adult Psychiatry Physician to join a team supported by a strong referral base and the full resources of a robust health system network.

• Collaborate with a dedicated, multidisciplinary team supported by 24/7 nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, and Education Specialists
• Enjoy a balanced inpatient schedule with a 7-on/7-off rotation (7:00 a.m. â 7:00 p.m.)
• Provide care on a 14-bed adult inpatient behavioral health unit with an average daily census of 9 patients and a typical length of stay of 3â5 days, focusing on acute crisis stabilization for conditions including suicidal/homicidal ideation, psychosis, and substance withdrawal/detox
• Serving a surrounding population of 230,000
• Employed position within a nonprofit health system
• Board Certified or Board Eligible
• Eligible for state medical license and DEA registration
• Evaluate and treat patients using appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic skills while ensuring accurate, timely documentation that meets payer requirements and supports appeals for denied services.
• Accept and manage inpatient referrals, serving as admitting, attending, and/or consulting physician as needed, while actively contributing to initiatives that enhance quality of care and cost-effectiveness.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• One or more of the following required:
  • Physician MD/DO credentialed from the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Physician MD/DO credentialed from the Wisconsin Medical Examining Board obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
• Advanced Life Support preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) required.
