Job summary

Fort Smith Public Schools' ADULT EDUCATION CENTER seeks an Adult Education Instructor to deliver curriculum for adults, including ESL and basic education, during the regular school day and evenings.

The instructor will maintain records, recruit students, assess progress, and collaborate with the Director of Adult Education and colleagues. Starting date is immediate, with a 190-day term and benefits as outlined in the employee contract.

Responsibilities

• Teach the course curriculum as outlined for and other instructional educational training programs developed for adults.
• Teaching assignments to include one or more of the following: Distance Learning, English as Second Language, and Adult Basic Education.
• Build knowledge and develop clinical skills aimed at assisting students to obtain credentials.
• Maintain accurate records on all students, including attendance records, schedules and course requirements regarding hours of instruction and content.
• Assist the director of Adult Ed in recruiting students for their programs, and assist with implementing new programs
• Evaluate and document students’ progress through testing, observation, and assessment of skills attained.
• Communicate effectively with students, and all those affiliated with the course, including staff at any training facilities, and prospective employers.
• Provide a stimulating environment that encourages student participation, interpersonal skills development, and concepts of good patient care.
• Maintain a monthly time sheet and turn in at required deadlines.
• Work as a team with advisors, career coaches, and SNAP case manager to assist students in obtaining available benefits and potential employment.
• Ability to perform physical work with patients and students in a clinical setting, if applicable.
• Ability to work nights.
• Carries out duty as assigned, including after-school or before-school duties
• Supervises students on recess, bus, during before and after school duty, on field trips, extracurricular events, and in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day
• Ability to work with diverse populations.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Skilled in teaching adult learners.
• Maintains prompt and regular attendance and demonstrates the ability to maintain positive professional working relationships with others
• Maintain emotional control under stress.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the Adult Education Director.

POSITION TITLE: Adult Education Instructor

FLSA: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Director of Adult Education

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190 days with benefitsand specified in the employee contract.

The incumbent will work regular school hours Monday-Thursday, two nights a week, and one summer session.
