Job summary

Sylvania is seeking an ESL Educational Assistant for Central Commons. This role supports lead ESL teachers, assists with lesson delivery, and helps prepare materials for classes held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The position requires 2 years of college work (60 credit hours), an Associate Degree, or a passing ParaProfessional test under ESSA guidelines. The schedule is 5 hours per week (4:30 pm–7:00 pm) during the 2026-2027 school year, with a pay rate of $15.45 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years (60 credit hours) at a State approved college or an Associate Degree.
  • Passing score on the ETS ParaProfessional test.

Responsibilities

  • Assist lead ESL teachers in devising ESL programs according to each student’s individual learning capability.
  • Instructs students individually or in groups with lesson assignments.
  • Gather teaching materials appropriate to the type of lesson and distribute them amongst students.
  • Assist students in grasping concepts of the English language.
  • Supervise students during lessons and activities.
  • Maintains various records for the purpose of compliance with ESL program requirements, including attendance and follow-ups.
  • Promote students’ self-esteem through positive encouragement.
  • Teach citizenship, social skills, and respect in accordance with the language.
  • Translates verbal and written communications for assisting students, teachers and staff.
  • Assist with registration and administer PRE/POST testing of students as needed.
  • Assist with follow-up tracking requirements as mandated by MAERS and state reporting agencies

REQUIREMENTS: To be considered for this position, you must be Highly Qualified as required by federal ESSA legislation. To be considered Highly Qualified, the successful candidate must have a minimum of 2 years (60 credit hours) at a State approved college, or an Associate Degree, or a passing score on the ETS ParaProfessional test.

PAY: $15.45/hour

HOURS: 5 hours/week (Tuesday & Thursday 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm)

START DATE: 2026-2027 School Year
