Job summary

Briya Public Charter School is seeking an Adult Education Assistant Teacher to support Lead Teachers in English, parenting, and digital literacy classes in Washington, DC. The role includes assisting with in-person and Zoom-based lessons, managing attendance, and helping students develop job-ready skills.

You will work closely with Briya staff to create an engaging learning environment, using technology to enhance daily activities and ensure safety and collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Teaching experience with low-literacy adult language learners or adult ESL preferred.
• Excellent English communication; Spanish preferred; Amharic, Tigrinya, French and/or Arabic valued.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and online learning tools (Zoom, Google Classroom, Google Apps).
• Ability to use classroom technology and assist with Zoom and breakout rooms.
• Physical demands include standing, walking, and occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assist Lead Teachers in implementing learning activities for individuals, small groups and full class.
• Monitor student comprehension and provide encouragement and targeted support.
• Maintain a safe, orderly classroom and enforce health and safety protocols.
• Support Child Development classes on Zoom, including attendance and breakout room management.
• Lead or assist with lesson activities as appropriate and foster student engagement.
• Track attendance and communicate enrollment and attendance information with the Lead Teacher.
• Support with technology and use of classroom tools to enhance learning.
• Collaborate with staff to plan lessons, reflect on progress and complete administrative duties.
• Participate in professional development to improve ESL, digital literacy and child development skills.
