Job summary

Norwich Public Schools is seeking an Adult Ed Citizenship Teacher for evening classes in Norwich, Connecticut. The role focuses on US history, government, civics, English development, and interview preparation.

This is a part-time position with hourly pay of $41.83. Candidates must hold CT Certification for Adult Education and have experience with adult/ESL learners; teaching with technology and differentiation is expected.

Qualifications

• CT Certification - Non-English Speaking Adults (#088) required.
• Knowledge of the U.S. naturalization process, citizenship examination, and USCIS instructional resources.
• Experience working with adult learners and/or English language learners preferred.
• Ability to differentiate instruction for students with varying levels of English proficiency.
• Ability to integrate technology into classroom instruction.
• Bilingual or multilingual skills preferred.
• Appropriate Connecticut teacher certification/authorization for Adult Education.
• Union-optional/Non-tenure track position; hourly rate commensurate with NTL contract.

The Citizenship teacher provides students with instruction designed to prepare them forthe United States naturalization process and citizenship interview. Instruction focuses onU.S. history and government, civics, English language development, and the reading,writing, and speaking skills necessary for participation in the naturalization process.

General Responsibilities

• Provide instruction aligned with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) requirements
• Prepare students for the naturalization interview and citizenship examination
• Provide instruction and practice related to the naturalization application and interview process
• Differentiate instruction and materials according to individual learning needs
• Utilize USCIS resources and other appropriate instructional materials
• Integrate technology and digital literacy skills into instruction
• Provide students with ongoing feedback and evaluation of skills attempted and mastered
• Promote civic engagement and an understanding of the rights and responsibilities of U.S. citizenship

Data Collection/Use and Student/Community Outreach

• Submit attendance and other required paperwork in a timely manner
• Follow up on students with poor attendance
• Participate in utilizing community agencies and resources to provide support services for students
• Submit student and teacher class reflection forms at the end of each semester

Professional Development

• Participate in Adult Education and program teacher meetings as required
• Meet required standards and seek to improve teaching practices through Teacher Evaluation feedback
• Participate in professional development workshops and activities

Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Adult Education
