Job summary

State of Connecticut DDS – South Southbury Training School in Southbury, CT seeks a Developmental Services Adult Services Instructor for full-time day work. The role supports individuals toward employment, independence and growth with person-centered planning and tailored supports.

The position requires four years of direct-service experience with intellectual disability, plus certificates such as CPR/PMT/First Aid, and may involve travel and training responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Four (4) years of experience in providing direct service to individuals with an intellectual disability.
• College training in special education, vocational rehabilitation, social work, mental health fields or behavioral sciences may substitute for the General Experience.
• Preferred qualifications include experience adapting and implementing creative activities for elderly individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
• Incumbents may be required to maintain CPR, PMT, Medication Administration and First Aid certificates and to travel.

Responsibilities

• Develops teaching strategies consistent with OPS/FAP goals and provides individual supports related to employment.
• Participates in person-centered planning, IPs, and futures planning and collaborates with families and supports.
• Assesses job compatibility, identifies natural supports, and matches community resources to interests.
• Transports individuals and administers medication; uses PMT and maintains health and safety.
• Conducts in-service training for agency staff and tracks registrations and course completion.
