THE POSITION

Apply to be an Adult Basic Literacy Education Advisor 1 with the Department of Education, Postsecondary and Adult Education, Division of Adult Education. This role monitors and evaluates grant-funded adult education programing and provides guidance to support continuous program improvement. Your work with our team will ensure that adult education and family literacy programs in the Commonwealth are high-quality, data-driven, and help residents achieve their personal, educational, and career goals.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position analyzes and influences how grant-funded adult education and family literacy programs impact the communities they serve. Work involves using program data, reports, monitoring strategies, teamwork, and communication with grantees to ensure services in the field comply with established requirements and truly help people learn the skills they need. As an Adult Basic Literacy Education Advisor 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Program Monitoring: Conduct ongoing, in-depth, and regular reviews of assigned programs to ensure programmatic and fiscal compliance with state and federal standards
  • Data Analysis: Evaluate quantitative and qualitative data to determine the impact of services on adults
  • Technical Assistance: Provide guidance to assigned programs and help them resolve issues related to compliance and responsiveness to community needs
  • Report Preparation: Write monitoring reports, review and track corrective action plans, and make recommendations based on program performance
  • Grant Support: Assist with planning and conducting annual competitive and renewal grant processes
  • Resource Development: Assist with developing and revising guidelines, policies, documents, tools, and resources

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to four days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Four years of professional experience in the field of adult basic or literacy education, including one year in an administrative capacity; and a bachelor’s degree; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of administrative experience in adult basic or literacy education.
