Job summary

The Area Adult Learning Cooperative (AALC) seeks an adaptable Adult Basic Education (ABE) Teacher to empower adult learners across the region. This role offers flexible full-time or part-time opportunities with hours determined by program needs and candidate availability.

The instructor will provide GED and ESL instruction, delivered both in-person at regional sites and through online distance learning, with curriculum aligned to Minnesota ABE standards and GED test framework.

Qualifications

• Valid Minnesota Teaching License (PELSB) in any field preferred; K-12 licensure also acceptable.
• Bachelor's degree in Education or related field required.
• Experience teaching adult learners, GED or ESL preferred.
• Proficiency with LMS, digital resources, and web conferencing tools (Google Meet).
• Must be able to travel between regional sites; mileage reimbursed for authorized travel.
• Flexible schedule and willingness to collaborate with program leadership.

Job description

The Area Adult Learning Cooperative (AALC) is seeking a dedicated and flexible Adult Basic Education (ABE) Teacher to empower adult learners across the region to achieve their educational, career, and personal goals.

This position offers flexible full-time or part-time employment opportunities, with the work schedule and number of hours determined based on the selected candidate's availability, qualifications, and program needs. Candidates interested in either full-time or part-time employment are encouraged to apply.

The instructor will provide targeted Adult Basic Education instruction, with a primary emphasis on General Educational Development (GED) preparation and English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction as needed.

Instruction will be delivered through a combination of in-person classes at regional sites in Le Sueur, St. Peter, Le Center, and Gaylord, as well as online distance learning sessions. Teaching assignments and locations will be determined based on candidate availability and program needs.

All curriculum will align with the Minnesota ABE Content Standards and the computer-based GED test framework.

Key Responsibilities

• Regional & Hybrid Instruction: Deliver high-quality instruction in person at designated regional sites and through virtual learning platforms. GED instruction covers all four subject areas: Mathematical Reasoning, Reasoning Through Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. Provide ESL instruction as assigned.
• Curriculum Alignment: Develop and deliver lessons aligned with Minnesota ABE Content Standards, the Academic Career and Employability Skills (ACES) framework, and Northstar Digital Literacy standards.
• Differentiated Learning: Adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learner backgrounds, educational levels, and learning needs across in-person and virtual classroom environments.
• Assessment & Tracking: Administer and analyze standardized progress assessments, such as CASAS or TABE, to monitor student achievement, document measurable skills gains, and determine GED readiness.
• Technology Integration: Utilize blended learning models and digital instructional tools to support student learning and develop the digital literacy skills necessary for the computer-based GED exam.
• Student Support: Provide academic guidance, goal-setting assistance, and regular feedback to promote student engagement, retention, and successful completion of educational goals.
• Program Collaboration: Work collaboratively with ABE staff and program leadership to support student success and meet the educational needs of adult learners throughout the consortium.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Licensure: Valid Minnesota Teaching License issued by the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB). Licensure in any field will be considered; K-12 or secondary licensure is preferred.
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Education, a content specialty, or a related field.
• Experience: Previous experience teaching adult learners, particularly in an ABE, GED preparation, or ESL program, is highly preferred.
• Technology Skills: Proficiency with learning management systems, digital instructional resources, and web conferencing platforms such as Google Meet.
• Travel Capability: Ability to travel reliably to assigned instructional sites throughout the consortium region. Mileage reimbursement is provided for authorized travel between regional sites.
• Flexibility: Willingness to work collaboratively with program leadership to establish an instructional schedule that accommodates both program needs and candidate availability.

Work Schedule & Compensation

Position Type: Full-Time (up to 1.0 FTE) or Part-Time.

The AALC is open to considering candidates seeking either full-time or part-time employment. The final employment arrangement, including the number of hours, instructional assignments, and work schedule, will be determined based on the selected candidate's availability and the needs of the program.

Work Schedule: Flexible scheduling opportunities may include daytime and/or evening instruction. Specific teaching days, hours, and locations will be established collaboratively with the selected candidate.

Instructional Format: Hybrid, including in-person instruction at regional sites and online distance learning. The combination of in-person and virtual instruction will depend on assigned responsibilities and program needs.

Travel Reimbursement: Mileage reimbursement at the applicable IRS rate for authorized travel between regional instructional sites.
