Job summary

OpenAI’s Ads Integrity team is hiring an experienced software engineer to design and operate backend systems that keep ads products safe, trustworthy, and resilient to abuse. You’ll own architecture across onboarding, verification, risk, content safety, and enforcement, partnering with ML teams to productionize signals while maintaining reliability and performance.

The role is based in San Francisco, with relocation assistance for new hires.

Qualifications

• Significant experience building and operating large-scale backend or distributed systems.
• Experience designing and running integrity, risk, or safety-focused infrastructure.
• Familiarity with ML-adjacent workflows and signals in production systems.
• Ability to reason about latency, reliability, and security in complex platforms.
• Proven track record delivering robust, observable systems at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design and build large-scale backend systems that detect and prevent harmful activity across the ads ecosystem.
• Develop low-latency integrity infrastructure capable of evaluating risk signals in real time.
• Create scalable risk-signal pipelines, decision systems, and enforcement infrastructure.
• Implement onboarding, verification, account-risk, fraud-detection, and abuse-prevention capabilities.
• Build ads content safety tooling and enforcement for unsafe or policy-violating ads.
• Integrate classifiers and model-based signals with production integrity systems.
• Develop feedback loops, review systems, and integrity metrics to improve detection quality.
• Create tooling for investigations and fast, explainable decision-making.
• Engineer systems that adapt to evolving adversaries and support experimentation and incident response.
• Collaborate with Ads Engineering to maintain reliability and latency while enabling protections.
