Job summary

Willow Rock is a 16-bed Psychiatric Health Facility in Alameda County serving adolescents aged 12-17 with acute psychiatric symptoms.

The Adolescent Counselor provides direct and indirect care per Rehabilitation and Recovery principles as part of a treatment team, supporting safety and recovery. Shifts are On-Call with wage starting at $23.00/hour to $28.00/hour, including 6% PM, 10% NOC, and weekend differentials; starting pay commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

• BA or BS with 2 years of psychiatric patient experience, or an Associate's Degree with 3 years, or 6 years direct mental health experience
• Equivalent experience in settings with adolescents with behavioral/learning issues
• Belief in recovery from mental illness
• Knowledge of basic psychiatric rehabilitation interventions
• Good communication skills and desire to work with persons with mental illness
• Must be at least 18 and proficient in reading, speaking and writing English
• Negative TB screen required
• CPR, CPI, and First Aid certification by employment date and maintained
• Post-offer physical, TB testing, background clearances, sanctions, and license verification may be required

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates Telecare mission and values with stakeholders
• Reviews admission documentation and care plans
• Assesses changes in milieu and adapts care methods
• Provides safe, effective direct care per policies and CPI principles
• Maintains therapeutic relationships and a hopeful attitude
• Attends community meetings and multidisciplinary treatment planning
• Documents daily living activities and responses to interventions
• Reports behavior changes to Clinical Director and coordinates disposals
• Assists with admissions/discharges and related documentation
• Handles physical care tasks including vital signs and weights as assigned
• Ensures safety through rounds and appropriate seclusion/restraint practices
• Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration
• Follows body substance precautions at all times
• Assists with meals and meal setup when needed
• Inpatient program: participate in restraint when needed; Outpatient: assist to avoid aggression
• Maintains confidentiality of staff and patient information
• Promotes self-help skills and patient-family communication
