Responsibilities

• Communicates with parents, schools, teachers, and patients regarding progress of assignments during hospitalization.
• Maintains classroom discipline and uses appropriate voice and actions.
• Maintains inventory of classroom equipment and supplies and reports broken items.
• Provides direct supervision to children and supports the primary teacher in instructional activities.
• May provide individual therapy-based teaching strategies to meet mental health and developmental needs.
• Assists in coordinating and communicating plans for hospitalized students returning to school.
• Supports safe learning environments and uses de-escalation techniques when needed.
• May assist on the unit with patient care and outdoor/therapeutic activities.
