Job summary

McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center is seeking a patient access clerk to support registration, admissions, and patient relations. You will interview patients to initiate accounts, evaluate needs for services and procedures, and determine the necessary documentation for medical and financial processes.

You will collect co-pays and deposits, educate patients on financial responsibilities, and document payments while coordinating with treatment teams to ensure accurate records and smooth patient

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Medical terminology strongly preferred.
• Experience in medical setting preferred.

Responsibilities

Job Summary:

• Under immediate supervision of the lead patient access clerk performs a variety of registration, admission, public relations, financial and medical service functions.
• Perform interviews for the purpose of initiating accounts.
• Evaluates information to determine appropriate flow of patient type, hospital service code, diagnosis, tests and procedures needed, medical necessity and priority.
• Determines appropriate documentation and form requirements based on medical and financial indicators.
• Secures information to assure rapid reimbursement
• Initiates collection activity by requesting co-payments, deposits and anticipated balance due.
• Provides education to patients related to medical necessity requirements.
• Receives and documents acceptance of cash, checks, credit card payments as well as patient valuables.
• Acts as liaison between the patient, visitors and others and of treatment authorization
• Provides information and answers questions about consent for treatment, assignment of benefits, acceptance of financial responsibility, release of records, patient rights and responsibilities and advance directives
• Maintains required documentation including patient medical records, logs and schedules, written and electronic. Identifies, responds, and announces all code phone and wall alarm activations.
