McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center is seeking a patient access clerk to assist with registration, admissions, and financial interactions. You will interview patients, determine service needs, and help ensure proper documentation and timely reimbursement.

The role involves patient education on medical necessity, handling payments, and serving as a liaison for consent and benefits information. SEIU Local 49 represented position; shift varies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Medical terminology strongly preferred.
• Experience in medical setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision of the lead patient access clerk, perform registration, admission, public relations, financial and medical service functions.
• Perform interviews for initiating accounts.
• Evaluate information to determine appropriate flow of patient type, hospital service code, diagnosis, tests and procedures needed, medical necessity and priority.
• Determine documentation and form requirements based on medical and financial indicators.
• Secure information to assure rapid reimbursement.
• Initiate collection activity by requesting co-payments, deposits and anticipated balance due.
• Provide education to patients related to medical necessity requirements.
• Receive and document acceptance of cash, checks, credit card payments as well as patient valuables.
• Acts as liaison between the patient, visitors and treatment authorization; provide information on consent, benefits, rights, and advance directives.

Job Summary:

• Under immediate supervision of the lead patient access clerk performs a variety of registration, admission, public relations, financial and medical service functions.
• Perform interviews for the purpose of initiating accounts.
• Evaluates information to determine appropriate flow of patient type, hospital service code, diagnosis, tests and procedures needed, medical necessity and priority.
• Determines appropriate documentation and form requirements based on medical and financial indicators.
• Secures information to assure rapid reimbursement
• Initiates collection activity by requesting co-payments, deposits and anticipated balance due.
• Provides education to patients related to medical necessity requirements.
• Receives and documents acceptance of cash, checks, credit card payments as well as patient valuables.
• Acts as liaison between the patient, visitors and others and of treatment authorization
• Provides information and answers questions about consent for treatment, assignment of benefits, acceptance of financial responsibility, release of records, patient rights and responsibilities and advance directives
• Maintains required documentation including patient medical records, logs and schedules, written and electronic. Identifies, responds, and announces all code phone and wall alarm activations.
