Candidates who have a deep understanding of and commitment to Waldorf education are encouraged to apply.

The Admissions & Outreach staff member plays a pivotal role in the growth and success of Portland Waldorf School by working on all aspects of the school's early childhood and grades enrollment management process. This position requires a dynamic, highly organized, and outgoing customer service-oriented personality; someone who can collaborate with various faculty and staff colleagues to attract, admit, and retain a diverse and qualified student body.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Understand and articulate PWS's mission in a knowledgeable, professional, and positive way.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to implement PWS's strategic enrollment goals.
  • Serve as a compelling outward-facing ambassador for PWS, thoughtfully building relationships with inquiring families, faculty, staff, families, and colleagues at other independent schools.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff in all sections to learn details of curriculum offerings in each grade/class, new programs, electives, clubs, activities, camps, morning/aftercare, school events, field trips, performances, presentations, fundraising, etc. in order to communicate the most current and relevant information to our community.
  • Manage the enrollment process from initial contact to onboarding in the early childhood and grades sections, including: responding to inquiries; scheduling and conducting tours, interviews, and school visits, and following up with applicants as needed until the admissions process has completed.
  • Plan and host outreach events on and off campus (requires occasional evening and weekend availability), including open houses; school/camp fairs, farmers markets, and other local community events; coordinating and managing volunteers; ongoing outreach to local feeder schools; print and post fliers and other outreach materials in local community.
  • Use an analytic, data-driven approach to guide admissions efforts, including keeping detailed records of all interactions in the enrollment management database and researching admissions and outreach trends for independent schools nationwide; participate in professional development opportunities related to enrollment, admissions, outreach, and community development.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Two years' experience in an independent school teaching or administrative role, preferably in a Waldorf school.
  • Exceptional writing and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Detail and goal oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with all the school’s various constituencies, such as prospective families, current families, alumni and alumni families, faculty/staff, leadership, Board, local community, feeder schools, local area Waldorf schools.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and networking in the realm of independent school enrollment, admissions, outreach; Waldorf curriculum and pedagogy; and DEI.
  • Highly resourceful and motivated – a "self-starter" with welcoming energy, enthusiasm, and exemplary work ethic.
  • Helpful, teamwork attitude; willing to assist faculty and staff with other tasks as needed.
  • Fluency with Google applications, Canva, Adobe, and enrollment database systems (Blackbaud) and a willingness to learn new software programs as needed.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends for school events as needed.

This is a part-time, non-exempt position, with an hourly wage range of $21.00-24.00, depending on education and work experience. Work hours are flexible, up to an average of 28 hours per week year-round, and must be agreed upon at hire. Work location is on-site during school days, and remote work is available during school breaks. Must be available for occasional evening and weekend work as requested. Benefits offered include paid sick time per Oregon Sick Leave law, retirement plan (after a 12-month waiting period), and professional development opportunities as budget allows. Immediate start date preferred. Please send a brief one-page letter of interest, resume, and three professional references, including phone numbers and e-mail addresses (in PDF format only) to hiring@portlandwaldorf.org.
