Job Description

The Admissions Counselor plays a key role in supporting the University’s recruitment and enrollment efforts by providing exceptional service to prospective students and their families. This position manages a designated recruitment territory and is responsible for meeting goals related to student inquiries, applications, visits, and enrollment.

Counselors represent the University at on- and off-campus events, including college fairs, high school visits, and campus visit days. They meet with students and families to provide information on academic programs, scholarships, study abroad, and campus life, helping each student understand how the University aligns with their goals.

This role includes evaluating applications, reviewing academic credentials, and making recommendations in line with University policies. Counselors use a CRM system to track communication, maintain data accuracy, and inform strategic outreach through reporting and predictive modeling.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, self-motivated, and team-oriented, with strong communication and interpersonal skills. A student-centered mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to work with diverse populations are essential. Some evening and weekend work, along with travel, is required.

Requirements/Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrate professionalism, ethical behavior, and respect for students, families, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Contribute positively to a collaborative admissions team by sharing ideas, supporting peers, and engaging in continuous improvement efforts.
  • Adhere to all University policies, departmental procedures, and supervisor guidance, including expectations for attendance, punctuality, and conduct.
  • Communicate effectively in person and in writing, with strong interpersonal skills
  • Possess high energy, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to present the University in a positive and professional manner to individuals and groups on and off campus.
  • Valid driver’s license required. Willingness and ability to travel regionally and work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience with Slate CRM systems and/or data-informed decision-making preferred.

Essential Functions

Student Recruitment & Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective students and families within an assigned territory.
  • Provide personalized counseling on admissions, scholarships, financial aid, study abroad, and academic programs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with high school counselors. Communicate regularly regarding student applicants and visit opportunities.
  • Represent the University at high school visits, college fairs, community events, and other external engagements.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with prospective students and their families through email, phone, text, virtual and in-person meetings.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records using the University’s CRM system to ensure data integrity and effective communication.

Territory & Event Management

  • Monitor strategic goals for assigned territory, including applications, admits, and enrolled students.
  • Coordinate and participate in on-campus recruitment events, such as Preview Days, Scholarship Competitions, and Info Sessions.
  • Strategically plan and execute off-site travel and recruitment visits, managing time and productivity independently.
  • Invite key influencers (e.g., school counselors, employers) to visit campus or attend special events.

Application Review & Enrollment Strategy

  • Review and evaluate student applications, academic records, and transcripts using institutional guidelines.
  • Use predictive modeling, historical data, and CRM insights to inform recruitment and outreach strategies.
  • Assess prospective student needs and align them with University offerings and support services.
  • Make recommendations on admissions decisions based on academic preparation and University policy.
