Job summary

Brattleboro Retreat is seeking an Admissions Nurse to triage psychiatric referrals, assess medical stability, and determine appropriate bed placement within the facility’s units. The role requires strong medical-surgical nursing skills to admit patients with complex mental health needs across children, adolescents, and adults.

The incumbent will collaborate with referral sources, physicians, and internal teams, ensuring timely, clinically appropriate admissions while maintaining high standards

Qualifications

• RN licensure in Vermont or eligibility required.
• Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing in last 4 years.
• Experience with patients across child, adolescent and adult ages preferred.

Responsibilities

• Triages psychiatric referrals to assess medical stability.
• Determines appropriate unit placement and level of care.
• Performs initial clinical assessments of physical and mental health.
• Maintains accurate documentation in the electronic health record.
• Collaborates with referral sources, physicians and staff.
• Provides crisis intervention and de-escalation when needed.
