Job summary

HCLTech is seeking a Data Center FieldOps Technician to support MACs and data center cabling. The role involves hardware installation, labeling, power and network connectivity, asset management, and rigorous documentation.

Responsibilities include fiber termination, testing with OTDR/PMLS, on-call duties, and adherence to safety and security protocols while coordinating with project plans and vendors.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED or equivalent.
  • Proficient with listed tools and fiber testing equipment.
  • Skilled in terminating all connector types and methods for SMF/MMF.
  • Experience in testing/troubleshooting MMF & SMF systems (OTDR & PMLS).
  • Preferred 3–5 years fiber experience.
  • Preferred Corning/FOA certifications.
  • Preferred data center installation experience.

Job Summary :Job Description: Data Center FieldOps Technician (RunOps Technician) Summary The Datacenter FieldOps team is responsible for supporting all production network cabling in the Datacenter. This global team offers a unique career opportunity to work with the latest network technologies and talented engineers solving complex problems in the industry.

Key Responsibilities

Key Sourcing Information : NA

Cabling & Termination
  • Support and complete all scheduled data center Moves/Adds/Changes (MACs).
  • Perform hardware installation MACs, including device labeling, power, and network cable connectivity.
  • Complete hardware support work orders involving MACs, certification, troubleshooting, and break-fix.
  • Manage assets, auditing, and daily work log/ticket tracking.
  • Provide smart-hands assistance within specified SLA response times (on-call duties may apply).
  • Maintain a safe and secure operating environment and report violations.
  • Maintain detailed documentation and record keeping.
  • Follow site security protocols, badging requirements, and data protection procedures.
  • Ensure proper logging, securing, and documentation of media storage devices.
  • Use network hardware/components, copper and fiber infrastructure installation and testing tools, and datacenter infrastructure management (DCIM) tools.
  • Coordinate equipment/material receiving, shipping, and RMA processing.
  • Provide vendor and security escorts as needed.
  • Perform general cleaning of floor, cabinet/rack surfaces, work benches, and other areas regularly.
  • Support standard and emergency operating procedures for the data center.
  • Provide status reporting on service availability, performance, and capacity utilization.
  • Conduct daily error log reporting and physical inspections for general health, power, cooling, and hazards.
  • Coordinate equipment installation and delivery schedules per project plans.
  • Perform on-call duties as needed.
Fiber Technician Specific Duties
  • Basic copper termination skills required.
  • Mount and install racks, patch panels, fiber optic hardware, and grounding.
  • Perform testing: continuity tests, use of volt-ohmmeter, troubleshoot cable issues, and use tone sets.
  • Install various fiber connectors (LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA, MPO/MTP) for multi-mode and single-mode fiber.
  • Terminate simplex & duplex jumper cords, breakout outside plant fiber, and indoor tight buffered fiber.
  • Install fan-out kits including buffer tubes.
  • Calculate end-to-end loss budgets per TIA/EIA standards.
  • Complete paperwork accurately and timely (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers).
  • Perform testing using OTDR, Fluke, and EFXO.
  • Troubleshoot network issues using OTDR.
  • Perform mechanical and fusion splicing with all fiber cable types.
  • Perform building entrance splices, maintenance space, and direct buried splices.
Additional Requirements
  • 25% travel required.
  • Available to work shifts (8, 10, 12 hours), weekends, and holidays.

Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Proficient with listed tools.
  • Skilled in terminating all connector types and methods for SMF and MMF systems (Unicam, anaerobic, heat-cure).
  • Experience in testing and troubleshooting MMF & SMF systems (OTDR & PMLS).
  • Preferred 3-5 years of fiber experience.
  • Preferred industry certifications (Corning/FOA).
  • Preferred data center installation experience.
