Job summary

HCLTech is seeking a Fiber Technician to support datacenter deployments across the USA. The role requires extensive travel and hands-on fiber cabling, testing, and splicing tasks to ensure reliable network infrastructure.

The candidate will install and terminate fiber components, perform OTDR testing, and manage lodging where needed. Travel expenses are covered by the company policy.

Qualifications

• Must travel frequently to multiple USA datacenters.
• Travel 90-100% full-time; report to local/home DC site when not traveling.
• Overnight stays or extended periods away from home required.
• Travel expenses covered per company policy.

Responsibilities

• Mount and install racks, patch panels, fiber optic hardware; install grounding as required.
• Perform testing: continuity test for cables; use volt-ohmmeter; diagnose opens/shorts; use a tone set.
• Install LC, SC, ST, FC, MPO/MTP connectors for multi-mode and single-mode fiber; terminate jumper cords.
• Test with OTDR; troubleshoot end-to-end and network-wide problems.
• Perform mechanical and fusion splicing of fiber cables.

• Effectively manage travel schedules and ensure timely and efficient service delivery
• 90-100% Full time travel, must report to local/home DC site when there is no travel.
• Travel will require overnight stay or extended periods away from home site
• Travel expenses will be covered by Company as per company policy

Responsibilities:

Cabling & Termination

• The Fiber Technician will mount and install racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware. Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required.
• The Fiber Technician performs testing: continuity test horizontal and riser cable; use of volt-ohmmeter; troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts, and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable; use a tone set.
• The Fiber Technician installs LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA and MPO/MTP connectors, for both multi-mode & single-mode fiber
• The Fiber Technician will terminate simplex & duplex jumper cord

Testing

• The Fiber Technician will test using an OTDR, Fluke & EFXO
• The Fiber Technician troubleshoots using an OTDR to identify and correct problems end to end, and Network wide
• The Fiber Technician will perform mechanical splicing with all types of fiber cable
• The Fiber Technician will perform fusion splicing with all types of fiber cable

Compensation and Benefits

A candidate’s pay within the range will depend on their work location, skills, experience, education, and other factors permitted by law. This role may also be eligible for performance-based bonuses subject to company policies.
