Job description

The Administrator serves as the director and primary representative of the facility within the community and is ultimately responsible for the overall management and operation of the Skilled Nursing Center of Kane County. This position provides leadership and oversight across clinical services, resident care, financial performance, regulatory compliance, staffing, employee relations, and day-to-day business operations.

The successful candidate will possess exceptional organizational, time-management, and stress-management skills, maintain a calm and professional demeanor, and demonstrate a strong understanding of both the clinical and business aspects of operating a skilled nursing and long-term care facility.

Administrator Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide strong leadership to the facility, with a primary focus on guiding, developing, and supporting direct reports while modeling professionalism, accountability, and effective leadership.

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the facility while maintaining focus on long-term organizational goals, operational priorities, and established budgets.

  • Participate in the development of the facility's annual budget and ensure responsible fiscal management throughout the year.

  • Maintain accountability for census development, accounts receivable and collections, Net Operating Income, resident care, regulatory compliance, employee relations, employee retention, return on investment, business planning, and implementation of core operational programs.

  • Collaborate with nursing and clinical department leaders to ensure residents' individual care plans are appropriately implemented and followed.

  • Ensure the facility operates in compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws, regulations, licensing requirements, and standards.

  • Develop and implement an annual business plan designed to support quality resident care, operational excellence, financial performance, and long-term organizational objectives.

  • Review the business plan with department heads at least quarterly to monitor progress toward established goals and ensure departmental operations remain within budget.

  • Oversee the admissions and placement process for prospective residents, ensuring the facility can appropriately meet each resident's physical, mental, psychosocial, and financial needs.

  • Review financial and operational reports and oversee the effective management and collection of accounts receivable in collaboration with the Business Office Manager.

  • Ensure an effective Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program is maintained to identify, address, and resolve facility concerns and promote continuous improvement.

  • Address employee concerns and complaints in a timely and professional manner, involving the appropriate Human Resources representative or designee as necessary.

  • Enforce facility policies and procedures and provide coaching, counseling, and corrective action when appropriate.

  • Review and approve facility payroll and employee time records for accuracy and compliance.

  • Adjust staffing assignments and reallocate employees between departments or areas as facility needs dictate to maintain appropriate staffing levels and quality resident services.

  • Maintain overall responsibility for resident satisfaction and regularly review resident and family feedback to ensure the facility is meeting expectations and providing a positive resident experience.

  • Review lost-time days and related reports to ensure facility safety programs, risk management practices, and claims-management processes are effective.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and organizational reporting requirements.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Basic computer proficiency and the ability and willingness to learn facility and company-specific applications.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, email, and related business systems.

Education and Experience
  • Current Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA) license in the state where the facility is located.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • Master's degree preferred.

  • Previous leadership or administrative experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care facility required.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on facility needs.

  • Availability to provide on-call support for facility emergencies and operational needs, including outside of regular business hours.

  • Ability to walk, reach, bend, lift, grasp, push, pull, sit for extended periods, and perform fine motor and hand-coordination activities, with or without reasonable assistance or mechanical devices.

  • Ability to distinguish odors and temperatures as necessary to perform essential job functions.

  • Limited potential exposure to environmental hazards. Must understand and consistently follow applicable facility safety standards, procedures, and protocols.
