Job summary

Job description

This position is located in the Board of Immigration Appeals, Executive Office for Immigration Review, U. S. Department of Justice. The incumbent coordinates administrative programs for the Board of Immigration Appeals, monitors program activities, analyzes operational issues, provides guidance, and recommends improvements to administrative support. This is a Competitive Service position; additional positions may be filled from this announcement within 90 days of certificate issuance.

In order to qualify for the Administrative Specialist position, you must meet the following minimum qualifications:

FOR THE GS-09 LEVEL:
Specialized Experience:
  1. Reviewing administrative program information to identify procedural issues affecting office operations;
  2. Tracking administrative requests or project actions through established processes to support timely completion;
  3. Monitoring procurement or property activities for compliance with established administrative procedures; and
  4. Coordinating administrative support with internal staff or external service providers to address routine operational needs.

Education:

Applicants must have a master's OR equivalent graduate degree, OR two (2) full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, or LL.B. or J.D. in a directly related field, that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Combination of Education and Experience:

Applicants must possess a combination of the above described education and specialized experience such that they total 100% of the stated minimum qualifications for the GS-09 level. Only graduate education beyond one (1) year, i.e., 18 semester hours, may be combined with experience under this provision.

FOR THE GS-11 LEVEL:
Specialized Experience:
  1. Coordinating a designated administrative program to ensure actions meet established program requirements;
  2. Analyzing administrative operations to identify trends and recommend improvements in organizational efficiency;
  3. Preparing administrative status reports to identify issues requiring management attention; and
  4. Applying administrative regulations and procedures to resolve program issues with limited supervisory guidance.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. OR equivalent doctoral degree, OR three (3) full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or LL.M. in a directly related field, that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

NOTE: Applicants must submit a copy of their transcripts for verification.

Combination of Education and Experience:

Applicants must possess a combination of the above described education and specialized experience such that they total 100% of the stated minimum qualifications for the GS-11 level. Only graduate education beyond two (2) years, i.e., 36 semester hours, may be combined with experience under this provision.
