Job summary

The Metropolitan Opera in New York seeks an attentive Administrative Assistant to support the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program (LYADP) with a range of administrative duties.

Reporting to the Executive Director with supervision by the Assistant Director, the role requires strong computer skills, language knowledge, and discretion to manage schedules, payroll data, translations, and program communications in a fast-paced opera environment.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of administrative experience with ability to prioritize and self-direct projects.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication for all LYADP aspects.
  • Strong computer skills including MS 365, Google Suite, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign), Canva, and web/database tools.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in tasks.
  • Knowledge of opera industry and repertoire is required.
  • Fluency or working knowledge of foreign languages preferred (Italian, German, French, Russian).
  • Strong math, accounting, and spreadsheet proficiency.
  • Ability to work with varied personalities with discretion in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours including nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, email and phone correspondence, calendar appointments, and departmental communications.
  • Prepare and maintain LYADP schedules, track artist releases, faculty availability, AGMA rehearsals, and cancellations using a custom platform.
  • Input and track payroll and finance data for artists, employees, contractors, faculty, and staff, including contracts and reimbursements.
  • Maintain artists' materials and edit texts, translations and program assets.
  • Oversee LYADP social media in coordination with Met Communications; manage digital assets.
  • Assist in planning LYADP events and external engagements, including texts and translations; provide production support.
  • Coordinate auditions, master classes, travel, proctoring, and logistics.
  • Prepare visa petition materials for international artists.
  • Handle other administrative tasks as assigned.
