Job summary

The Law Offices of Daniel Kim in Costa Mesa, CA is seeking an Administrative Legal Assistant to support the Negotiations Department and help move personal injury cases toward resolution. This in-office role requires a proactive, detail-oriented legal professional who can manage deadlines, document handling, and client communications.

You will assist with settlement negotiations, prepare correspondence, organize records, and coordinate with clients, insurance adjusters, and attorneys.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a legal assistant, preferably within personal injury or pre-litigation.
  • Experience supporting personal injury claims, settlement negotiations, or insurance-related matters is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with bodily injury claims, insurance coverage, medical records, medical bills, and settlement demands.

Responsibilities

  • Support negotiators and attorneys throughout the pre-litigation and settlement process.
  • Communicate regularly with clients to provide case updates and explain the next steps in the claims process.
  • Coordinate with insurance adjusters, opposing counsel, medical providers, and other parties involved in each case.

The Role

DK Law is seeking an experienced Pre-Litigation Legal Assistant to support our Negotiations Department and help move personal injury cases efficiently toward resolution. This role is ideal for a proactive, detail-oriented legal professional who understands the pre-litigation process and is comfortable communicating regularly with clients, insurance adjusters, opposing counsel, medical providers, and other parties involved in a claim.

The ideal candidate will assist with settlement negotiations, maintain organized and complete case files, track important deadlines, obtain necessary documentation, and provide clients with timely updates throughout the process. This position requires excellent communication, strong follow-through, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

What You Will Do
  • Support negotiators and attorneys throughout the pre-litigation and settlement process.
  • Communicate regularly with clients to provide case updates, answer questions, request information, and explain the next steps in the claims process.
  • Communicate professionally with insurance adjusters, opposing counsel, medical providers, lienholders, experts, and other parties involved in each case.
  • Assist with preparing, reviewing, and sending settlement demands, correspondence, and supporting documentation.
  • Request and organize medical records, medical bills, insurance information, police reports, wage-loss documentation, and other case-related materials.
  • Review case files to confirm that all necessary records, bills, evidence, and supporting documents are complete before negotiations begin.
  • Assist with settlement negotiations by tracking offers, counteroffers, policy limits, deadlines, and negotiation activity.
  • Draft and send letters of representation, follow-up correspondence, status requests, and other pre-litigation communications.
  • Obtain and document insurance coverage information, including policy limits and applicable coverage.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to resolve outstanding medical records, billing, lien, treatment, or documentation issues.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely case notes in the firm’s case management system.
  • Monitor case deadlines, statutes of limitations, client treatment status, and outstanding action items.
  • Escalate time-sensitive matters, disputed liability issues, low settlement offers, or stalled negotiations to the appropriate negotiator or attorney.
  • Assist with settlement documentation, including releases, settlement breakdowns, and closing-related materials.
  • Ensure clients receive a responsive, compassionate, and professional experience throughout the pre-litigation process.
  • Role may include other relevant duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
