Starting Salary Range: $16.68 - $21.23 and determined based on relevant years of work experience provided on application and resume.

Position Summary: The Lab Assistant, Fashion Merchandise provides administrative, operational, and laboratory support to the Fashion Merchandising & Design (FM&D) program. This position is responsible for coordinating supplies and inventory, preparing instructional spaces and laboratories, supporting faculty and student activities, assisting with departmental events, maintaining program communications and marketing efforts, and ensuring safe and effective learning environments. The Administrative/Lab Assistant serves as a key resource in supporting instructional excellence, student engagement, and program initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of related experience.

Qualified candidates for this position must have the following skills:

  • Strong organizational, administrative, and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and digital communication platforms.
  • Experience creating marketing materials and social media content.
  • Familiarity with social media management and content creation platforms. (Canva)
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and external partners.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience in Fashion Merchandising, Fashion Design, Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of or interest in fashion merchandising, fashion design, textiles, retailing, or related creative industries.

Position detailsinclude but are not limited to:

  • Procurement & Inventory Management:
    • Source supplies and fashion design tools, equipment, fabrics, and materials by identifying, comparing, and selecting suppliers and vendors.
    • Maintain accurate records of suppliers and vendors.
    • Track and maintain inventory levels for departmental supplies to ensure necessary stock is maintained for instructional purposes.
    • Perform periodic review of inventory stock, recording quantity, type, and value of materials on hand.
  • Facility & Classroom Preparation:
    • Prepare and set up laboratories, classrooms, and showcases, ensuring faculty and students have the materials, equipment, products, and supplies needed to conduct class.
    • Clean and maintain work areas to create an organized environment conducive to creativity and learning.
    • Design, decorate, and maintain bulletin boards promoting the field's programs and job opportunities.
  • Event Coordination & Support:
    • Organize and assist during program-specific/club events, including: Planning of event details, Securing resources, Creating/disseminating resources for the event, Assisting with setup, Problem-solving on the day of the event, Post-event wrap-up.
  • Faculty, Student & Safety Support:
    • Provide support to the Fashion Merchandising & Design faculty for educational activities, demonstrations, and program communications including student/educational tours.
    • Identify, elevate, and report any safety hazards or concerns and ensure safety guidelines are communicated and followed in all labs.
  • Marketing & Communications:
    • Create and update marketing and advertising materials to promote program offerings to faculty, students, and the greater JCCC community.
    • Develop digital content and manage social media posts for department marketing across all platforms.
    • Maintain and update the FM&D Community Site including digital student job board.
  • Other duties as assigned:
    • Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity, may be updated at any time at the discretion of management.
