Job summary

Midwest Regional Forensic Lab is seeking an organized administrative professional to support the Lab Director, Assistant Laboratory Director, and forensic scientists. You will handle confidential data, monitor budgets, and process invoices and vendor contracts.

The role requires strong communications, multi-tasking, and the ability to coordinate workflows in a fast-paced environment with stringent compliance expectations.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; associate degree preferred.
  • 2,080 annual hours of related experience or equivalent education/experience.
  • Pass extensive background investigation as part of pre-employment screening.
  • Experience in law enforcement, corrections, or legal environment preferred.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate workflows.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clerical and administrative support for leadership and analysts.
  • Develop, maintain, and handle confidential information.
  • Monitor monthly expenditures and proper coding per policies.
  • Provide division financial support and assist with budgets and year-end processes.
  • Process invoices for payment and ensure accuracy.
  • Monitor purchase orders; order supplies and coordinate vendor contracts.
  • Assist with planning and coordinating MRFL and ACSO events.
  • Maintain filing systems and monitor evidence retention procedures.
  • Produce laboratory reports and assist with monthly/annual distributions.
  • Prepare response documents from the Laboratory for legal staff during discovery.
  • Support QA audits for vault security and compliance.

Job description

  • Provide clerical and administrative support for the Midwest Regional Forensic Lab Director, Assistant Laboratory Director, and Forensic Scientists
  • Develop, maintain, and handle confidential information
  • Monitor monthly expenditures, proper coding, and adherence to financial policies
  • Provide division financial support and assist with annual budget and year-end financial processes
  • Submit, monitor, and track physical plant, IT, and telecom work orders
  • Organize and maintain filing systems and monitor record/evidence retention procedures
  • Receive, review, and process invoices for payment; ensure accuracy and correct issues
  • Monitor and track purchase orders; order supplies, uniforms, and consumables; coordinate vendor contracts and services
  • Advise staff regarding purchases and expenditure allocation
  • Monitor fixed assets and conduct annual inventories
  • Assist with partner annual contributions, grant money requests, monthly reports, and semiannual grant progress reports
  • Develop systems, spreadsheets, and tracking methods for laboratory casework trends
  • Assist with creation and distribution of monthly and yearly laboratory reports
  • Schedule and coordinate administrative meetings; attend meetings and take minutes
  • Assist with planning and coordinating MRFL and ACSO events as assigned
  • Interact professionally with co-workers, public officials, and the general public
  • Produce response documents from the Laboratory for legal staff during discovery
  • Support the QA manager with vault security, accuracy, and compliance audits
  • Complete special projects and other assigned duties
Requirements
  • High school diploma
  • At least 2 years (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for required education on a year-for-year basis
  • Successfully pass an extensive background investigation
  • Preferred: Associate degree in Accounting, Human Resources, Public Administration, or closely related field
  • Preferred: Three or more years (2,080 annual hours) of administrative support experience
  • Experience in law enforcement, corrections, or legal environment preferred
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate workflows
  • General understanding of general office procedures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Word processing, spreadsheet, database, and PowerPoint experience
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruption
  • Ability to meet stated physical demands and work conditions
  • Must pass applicable pre-employment criminal/driving background check, drug screen, DOT physical, and/or other qualifications checks when required
  • Occasional travel may require driving a county vehicle and/or personal vehicle
  • Must comply with Anoka County Sheriff’s Office tattoo, scar, and brand policy
