Job summary

Success Education Colleges in California seeks an Adjunct RN Simulation Instructor to plan, develop, coordinate, and facilitate simulation-based learning for nursing students.

You will operate high-, medium-, and low-fidelity simulations, conduct structured debriefings, provide feedback, and ensure activities align with course objectives under the Dean of Nursing. This is a 20–24 hour per week, part-time position.

Qualifications

  • Active California RN license required.
  • BSN is required; MSN preferred.
  • Experience with nursing education or simulation education is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, prepare, and facilitate simulation-based learning experiences aligned with course objectives and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with faculty to identify simulation activities and learning objectives.
  • Develop realistic simulation scenarios using high-, medium-, and low-fidelity methods and standardized patients.
  • Facilitate debriefing sessions to promote reflection and clinical reasoning.
  • Provide feedback on student performance and ensure alignment with accreditation standards.

The instructor uses simulation technology and evidence-based teaching strategies to create realistic clinical scenarios that promote clinical judgment, critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and safe patient care.The instructor collaborates with nursing faculty to ensure simulation activities are aligned with course objectives, clinical learning outcomes, and the nursing program curriculum. The position is responsible for facilitating simulation experiences and conducting structured debriefing to promote student reflection and clinical reasoning.This position reports directly to the Dean of Nursing and is hired by the Dean of Nursing.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESDevelop, prepare, and facilitate simulation-based learning experiences aligned with nursing course objectives and student learning outcomes.Collaborate with nursing faculty and Block/Course Coordinators to identify appropriate simulation activities and clinical learning objectives.Develop realistic simulation scenarios using high-, medium-, and low-fidelity simulation technology, standardized patients, role-playing, and other simulation methodologies.Prepare simulation environments, equipment, technology, and scenarios prior to scheduled simulation activities.Operate and troubleshoot simulation equipment, software, audio/video systems, and related technology during simulation sessions.Facilitate simulation experiences that promote clinical judgment, critical thinking, prioritization, communication, teamwork, and patient safety.Observe and evaluate student performance during simulation activities.Facilitate structured, respectful, and confidential post-simulation debriefing sessions.Provide constructive feedback to students regarding clinical decision-making, communication, teamwork, and patient-care performance.Identify student learning needs and provide appropriate simulation-based remediation when needed.Maintain accurate records of simulation participation, student performance, evaluations, and other required documentation.Collaborate with faculty to integrate simulation activities with classroom instruction and clinical experiences.Ensure simulation activities support nursing program outcomes and applicable accreditation and institutional standards.Maintain current knowledge of simulation-based education, nursing education, technology, and evidence-based teaching practices.Participate in simulation training, faculty development, program meetings, curriculum review, and continuous improvement activities.Evaluate simulation activities and student feedback and recommend improvements to enhance the learning experience.Maintain confidentiality of student information and comply with institutional policies, applicable regulations, and patient privacy requirements.Promote a safe, respectful, inclusive, and professional learning environment.Perform other duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLSStrong knowledge of professional nursing practice and clinical patient care.Knowledge of simulation-based nursing education and clinical judgment development.Ability to develop and facilitate realistic, engaging, and educational simulation scenarios.Strong debriefing and facilitation skills.Ability to evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback.Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.Proficiency with simulation technology, Learning Management Systems, and related computer applications.Ability to work collaboratively with nursing faculty and academic leadership.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Commitment to student success, patient safety, and continuous professional development.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSCurrent, active, and unrestricted California Registered Nurse (RN) license.Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; MSN preferred.Minimum of two (2) years of professional nursing experience.Recent direct patient-care experience as a Registered Nurse preferred.Previous experience in nursing education, simulation education, clinical instruction, or precepting preferred.Experience with high-, medium-, or low-fidelity simulation technology preferred.Success Education Colleges is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
