Adjunct Lecturer - British Literature

Position: A djunct Lecturer - British Literature


Department: English Language - Literature


Classification: Part-time, Non-benefit eligible


Rate: $1400 per contact hour (with a terminal degree) and $1200 per contact hour (without a terminal degree). This compensation is per contact hour and is subject to change based on class size.


Brief overview of duties:Teach British Literature I, covering literature from the Anglo-Saxon era to the 18th century. The ideal candidate will have background teaching representative works from this time period (e.g., Beowulf, Chaucer, Shakespeare, Milton, Behn). The class will enroll a mix of English majors and non-majors fulfilling a general education requirement. Expected total enrollment of 30-40 students.


This course will be offered in an online asynchronous format, so experience designing courses for and teaching in this modality is essential. Familiarity with the Brightspace/D2L learning management system is also an asset.


Classes start Monday, August 31, and conclude Friday, December 11; final exam week runs December 14-18.

Required Qualifications: Doctoral or Master’s degree in relevant field and experience teaching literature required.


Physical Requirements: Whileperforming the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talkor hear.
The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands totouch, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
This position requires the ability tooccasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
Use of computer screen, phone andcustomer service.
May require bending, or sitting for longperiods of time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include closevision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception andability to adjust focus.
