Job Overview

Adjunct – Italian position provides quality instruction and maintains a positive learning environment in the classroom, with major emphasis placed on teaching, supporting and evaluating students.

Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned courses as scheduled.
  • Design curriculum to foster talent in students while modelling inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Consider individual differences of students to design and support a range of appropriate learning activities.
  • Participate in the identification of students with academic or other needs and respond by utilizing an appropriate resource.
  • Use technology in a manner appropriate to the nature and objectives of courses and programs and communicate clearly to students the expectations concerning the use of such technology.
  • Keep accurate and appropriate records in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Maintain attendance records, determine and submit grades timely, and communicate progress feedback and other relevant information to students throughout the semester.
  • Distribute and maintain accurate syllabi that incorporate departmental, college, cross‑college, and instructor requirements.
  • Conduct classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule.
  • Employ appropriate assessment techniques to measure students’ performance in achieving course goals and objectives.
  • Engage in periodic meetings with the department, Lead Instructor, and Chairperson relative to teaching duties and professional development.
  • Create a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge, student and faculty interaction, and support for learners.
  • Maintain posted office hours in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Use technology to assist in communication with students and encourage a sense of community among students for learning both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Refer students to appropriate student and academic support services available at the College or in the community.
  • Foster and maintain a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of the community.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Italian OR Master’s degree in a relevant subject and a minimum of 18 graduate‑level credit hours in Italian.
  • State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
Compensation

$56.88 per contact hour; two hours equals one contact hour. Maximum of 12 contact hours per week. Full time/part time: part time.
