Job summary

City Colleges of Chicago seeks a Part-Time Electrical Instructor for Daley College's Professional and Personal Development Department. The role involves providing and sustaining an effective learning environment, delivering hands-on training, and ensuring safety and code compliance for students in electrical trades.

Responsibilities include developing course materials, supervising shop activities, and maintaining attendance records while collaborating in staff meetings and upholding CCC

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent credit hours in related field of study from an accredited college or university or a Certificate in the related field of study with years of related experience OR Journeyman Card OR two industry-recognized credentials.
  • Five to seven years of electrical experience preferred.
  • Teaching or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Work experience in a teaching environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of current safety standards related to the classroom/shop and building maintenance trade.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems such as Brightspace preferred.
  • Exhibit sensitivity to a multicultural student population.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Working independently and exercising sound judgement; maintaining confidentiality in all matters related to students.
  • Ability to work under pressure and exercise flexibility as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on training for entry-level electrician skills such as Ohm’s Law, electrical concepts, AC/DC Theory, wiring, and code compliance.
  • Instruct students about OSHA safety and the National Electrical Code compliance.
  • Supervise students in classroom/laboratory to ensure safety and rules adherence.
  • Assist students in understanding lesson plans and provide constructive feedback.
  • Prepare and manage equipment and supplies required to meet lesson objectives.
  • Develop and revise courses and instructional materials as necessary.
  • Maintain and clean training/shop areas and equipment.
  • Create a purposeful, orderly, and supportive learning environment.
  • Participate in staff meetings and team planning sessions.
  • Adhere to CCC policies and Customer Service Excellence standards.

Job description

Consider joining Daley College's Professional and Personal Development Department as a Part‑Time Electrical Instructor. Daley College is seeking an Electrical Instructor to teach. In this position you will be responsible for providing and sustaining an effective learning environment for every student through well‑prepared classes, relevant assignments, fair and holistic assessment of learning, clear documentation and feedback on student progress, and support of academic success for all students.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide hands—on training for entry—level electrician skills such as Ohm’s Law, electrical concepts, AC/DC Theory, hand/power tools, measuring instruments, basic wiring, reading schematics, circuit construction, conduit bending, cable installation, box/panel work, code compliance, service installation, troubleshooting, motor theory, control/Start/Stop circuits and renewable energy basics.
  • Instruct students about the importance of OSHA safety and the National Electrical Code compliance.
  • Supervising students in classroom/Laboratory/trade shop area to ensure students are following class rules and safety procedures.
  • Assists students in understanding the lesson plans and project objectives. Provides effective feedback to students.
  • Prepares, maintains, distributes, and collects equipment and other supply materials required to meet lesson objectives.
  • Develop and revise courses and instructional materials as necessary.
  • Supervises the cleaning and trash removal from the training/shop area.
  • Create a purposeful, orderly, and supportive learning environment.
  • Assist in solving student issues.
  • Maintains student’s attendance records and other records as required.
  • Participates in weekly staff meetings, classroom team planning sessions, and other meetings as scheduled.
  • Adheres to policies and procedures established by the instructor.
  • Adheres to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
