Job summary

Wake Technical Community College seeks an instructor to provide effective instruction for Medical Laboratory Technology courses. The role includes developing laboratory assignments, maintaining student records, and ensuring a safe, orderly learning environment.

A Bachelor’s in Medical Technology or related field and MLS/ASCP certification (or equivalent) with at least three years of lab experience are required.

  • Certification MLS(ASCP)cm, MT(ASCP), or CLS(NCA) or equivalent with at least three years of lab experience.

Job description

This position is responsible for providing effective instruction for assigned courses.

  • Instructs and guides the class in an efficient and effective manner
  • Develops, selects, and supervises laboratory/clinical assignments that reinforce classroom learning and measures students' ability to apply knowledge in practical medical laboratory settings
  • Maintains accurate records of student work and attendance
  • Prepares thoroughly for each instructional hour
  • Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment
  • Grades and returns student work in a timely manner
  • Counsels students regarding their grades and progress in the course
  • Implements evaluation tools structured to measure student achievement
  • Assists in career counseling and placement of graduates
  • Constructs classroom materials that support the goals of the course
  • Designs curriculum and a schedule of instruction
  • Organizes and maintains laboratory and clinical areas and equipment used in course assignments
  • Uses assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching
  • Maintains communication with instructors from other divisions in order to keep courses up-to-date and appropriate
  • Remains up-to-date on technology and methods of teaching with technology
  • Attends professional development opportunities when possible

Requirements
  • Bachelors' degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science or related field
  • Certified MLS(ASCP)cm, MT (ASCP), or CLS (NCA), or equivalent with a minimum of three years laboratory experience
