Job summary

College of the Mainland in Texas City seeks an Adjunct Instructor for Mechanical Maintenance and Millwright to teach equipment installation, repair and preventive maintenance. The program trains petrochemical, maritime and construction trades for skilled careers.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, 5 years in industrial maintenance as a millwright, and a current license or degree in mechanical maintenance.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED; 5 years’ experience in industrial/manufacturing as millwright or mechanical maintenance technician.
  • Minimum of a Mechanical Maintenance Technician or Millwright license, certificate or degree.
  • Knowledge of bearings, shafts, chains, valves, pumps, compressors and mechanical drives.
  • Knowledge of centrifugal compressors, blowers, turbines.
  • Knowledge of alignment and vibration systems.
  • Knowledge and use of calipers, micrometers and other measuring instruments.
  • Knowledge of milling machines, drill presses, grinders, etc.
  • Knowledge of schematics and blueprints.
  • Knowledge and welding (torch, stick, wire).
  • Knowledge of lockout/tagout, hot works, line breaking and confined space entry.
  • Knowledge of moving machinery with hoists/dollies/rollers.
  • Safety and housekeeping in training environment.

  • Teach assigned classes in keeping with approved syllabi, outlines, and instructional materials through lecture and lab instruction.
  • Maintain accurate student accounting records in compliance with COM.

Preferred Education/Training/Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED . Equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. 5 years’ experience in the industrial or manufacturing field as a millwright or mechanical maintenance technician.
  • Minimum of a Mechanical Maintenance Technician or Millwright license, certificate or degree.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and repair associated with bearings, shafts, chains, valves, pumps, compressors and mechanical drives.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and repair associated with centrifugal compressors, blowers, turbines.
  • Knowledge and understanding of alignment and vibration systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of rules, calipers, micrometers and other measuring instruments.
  • Knowledge and understanding of adjusting functional parts of devices and control instruments using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs and straightedges.
  • Knowledge and understanding of operating milling machine, drill presses, grinders, etc., in installation and repair machinery and equipment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of use and interpretation of schematics and blueprints related to equipment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of use of industry standard cutting and welding skills, use of torch, stick welding, and wire welding.
  • Knowledge and understanding of lock out tag out, hot works, line breaking and confined space entry.
  • Knowledge and understanding of moving machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, and rollers.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safety and housekeeping for a safe training environment.
