Job summary

Brunswick Community College in North Carolina is seeking a dedicated IT instructor to deliver student-centered learning in our Information Technology department. Under limited supervision, you will teach online and in-class courses, advise and mentor students, and contribute to the department's future.

Responsibilities include designing engaging curricula, maintaining records and learning outcomes, supporting access and completion goals, and collaborating with faculty, staff, and industry

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or a Master’s with 18 graduate IT hours.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse faculty and student population with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience teaching information technology courses or industry IT experience.
  • Post-secondary teaching and outcome assessment experience in a related field.
  • Experience delivering courses online and in-person.
  • Experience teaching computer science in various formats (courses, training, workshops, continuing education).
  • Current industry-recognized certifications (e.g., Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco).

  • Fosters collegial relationships among colleagues and partners.
  • Supports student access, success and completion agenda.
  • Maintains attendance records, syllabi, learning outcomes, and other required documents.
  • Maintains open communication with faculty, staff, students, community, and business representatives.
  • Performs other tasks as needed.

Job description

Under limited supervision, provides excellent student-centered instruction within our Information Technology department, as well as serves as a partner in helping to guide the department's future. Performs administrative, record keeping, educational, and technical work related to instructing students online and/or in a classroom setting, advising and mentoring students, and related functions.

  • Instructs in the Information Technology department incorporating a wide variety of teaching methods and modalities which will include lecture, lab, testing, and assessments.
  • Fosters a collegial relationship among colleagues and partners.
  • Supports the student access, success and completion agenda.
  • Maintains attendance records, syllabi, lesson plans, student learning outcomes, and more as required by BCC/NCCCS and our accrediting agency.
  • Maintains open and professional communication with BCC (faculty, staff, supervisors, administration, etc.), students, community members, and representatives from business entities.
  • Performs other tasks as needed.
  • Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field from a regionally accredited university or a Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited university with 18 graduate hours in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field.
  • Demonstrates excellent oral & written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse faculty/student population and demonstrates strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience teaching information technology courses or industry experience in Information Technology.
  • Post-secondary teaching and outcome assessment experience in a related field.
  • Experience in delivering courses both online and seated.
  • Experience in teaching computer science in any of the following formats: teaching courses, training sessions, conducting professional development workshops, and/or other continuing education seminars.
  • Current industry-recognized certifications (i.e.: Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco, etc.).
