Department Summary

Innovative research, professional service, and stellar teaching and mentorship define the UNT Department of History, a community of 36 full-time faculty and staff, 450 undergraduate history majors, and nearly 100 MA and PhD students. The department has been long recognized in the fields of oral history and the histories of Texas and the American South. In recent decades, we have also emerged as a leader for interdisciplinary research in food studies, military history, the medical humanities, and in digital scholarship. UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.

Position Overview

The Department of History seeks qualified individuals for its Adjunct Instructor pool and welcomes applicants at any time. This posting is for the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters. The specific courses involved may vary from semester to semester and openings to teach these courses develop on a periodic basis, depending on department teaching needs.

Anticipated courses:

  • HIST 4750 Social Studies Teaching Methods (Denton campus)
  • U.S. Surveys to/from 1865 (Denton and Frisco campus)
Minimum Qualifications

A master's degree in the discipline or a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours directly related to the assigned courses(s).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in History.
  • Two or more years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
  • Experience teaching online and the ability to use Canvas.
